Since I’ve been waiting between edits I’ve been doing copious amounts of reading. Well, I usually do that anyway, but now I’ve run across an author whose work I really enjoy.

Brady Udall is the bestselling author of The Lonely Polygamist and The Miracle Life of Edgar Mint. Both books are exceptionally good!

I, like other people, have this certain view of polygamy, but Polygamist debunks some of the myths surrounding it. Udall is Mormon and is from Utah. He’s one of many children, but his parents didn’t practice polygamy themselves. I like the main character’s view on love and life…very down to earth and real. And it certainly didn’t center on getting to choose a different wife on any given night. Actually, it seemed really painful for both him and his wives. But in the end, the protagonist…well, I won’t give the ending away!

And Edgar was one of the most unique books I have ever read. It begins with six year old Edgar getting his head literally run over by a mail truck. The rest of the book is the story of his subsequent life in the hospital, mental institution, and with adoptive parents. It’s sad and funny at the same time. I love that the point of view weaves between first person, told by Edgar, and third person, where the narrator tells Edgar’s story, all in the same paragraph at times. Very well written and entertaining.

I love it when I find new books I really enjoy!
